Episode two starts off with Ichigo?s father trying to wake him up with a flying drop kick. Ichigo then counters it and ends up pinning his father on the floor with only one hand and the other hand shaking furiously. He was angered at the fact that his father tried to kill him first thing in the morning. Ichigo then realizes that last night they where attacked by a hollow and asks his father how are Yuzu and Karin. His father looks very confused at his son and replies that there were no injuries. It?s also a miracle because a truck hit the house last night. Karin comments on how nobody woke up to catch the driver but the father is convinced that the driver will eventually turn himself in. Ichigo very well knows that a truck didn?t hit the house; in fact, a hollow did the damage to the house. Ichigo thinks that the mind alteration must be a Death God trick. He then wonders what happened to Kuchiki Rukia, the woman who helped save his family. Then he just assumes that she went bake to Soul Society.
After Ichigo eats his breakfast and gets to school he walks the hall to get to his class. When he turns the corner he accidentally knocks over a girl known as Inoue Orihime. She is a very cute and shy girl. Her best friend, Arisawa Tatsuki, accompanied her. Tatsuki is angry at the fact that Ichigo did not say that he was sorry right away and demands an apology from him. Ichigo tries to help Orihime off the floor but she springs up and backs away talking gibberish and runs down the hall. Ichigo and Tatsuki then walk to class. Once the get there, Ichigo finds himself surrounded by his friends, Mizurio, Kegio, and Chad (Sado) and explaining what happened to him and his house. Rukia then walks down the aisle and introduces herself to Ichigo for the first time and announces that she will be sitting next to him in class. Ichigo jumps and freaks out, but his friends tell him that she is a new transfer student. Rukia then extends her arm for a handshake. She ten turns it right side up and Ichigo reads the writing on her hand which says, ?Make a scene and your dead?. We then find them in the courtyard.
Ichigo is still confused that Rukia is still here and asks her why she is not in Soul Society. She then explains to him that only Death Gods can return there at will. For now, she is using a faux body. A faux body is a temporary body that?s dispensed for emergency use. Death Gods who are extremely weakened enter these to wait for their powers to recover. She then tells him that she no longer has the power of a Death God. She also tells him that he was the one who took almost all of her powers and that now he is a Death God and that he must fight all the hollows that show up in the city until she gets her powers back. Ichigo denies this. He does not want to risk his life for complete strangers. He turns to walk back to the building. Rukia puts on a fingerless glove with a picture of a flaming skull and runs at him. Ichigo turns around and Rukia hit him under the chin separating his spirit from his body.
She forces him to follow her. They seem to be walking aimlessly around the town until Rukia takes out her cell phone from inside her jacket and states that she had gotten orders from Soul Society about a hollow in the area. As soon as she?s finished reading the display (which tells her the mission) a hollow in a form of an arachnid crashes out of the park and a boy screams while the hollow is chasing it. Ichigo then rushes to slay the beast when Rukia stops him half way there. She asks him why he is going to save a complete stranger considering what he had said in the school courtyard. Ichigo responds that he cannot watch as a hollow devours a poor boys soul. Rukia then states that if he saves this soul then he would have to save the rest that need help. She says that he needs to go wherever he can to put his life on the line and save all the souls that he can. Ichigo stops to think about this for a few seconds then hears the scream of the endangered little boy and he rushes in and cuts of two legs in one swift movement sending the hollow fling backwards hitting the ground then disappearing in to the air. He then yells back at Rukia that he doesn?t believe in all that stuff about duty and commitment. He also asks her if it was only her duty to sacrifice her life for saving his last night. He had saved the boy because he had wanted to. The hollow then reapers behind Ichigo and jumps at him with the intent to kill. All Ichigo does is raise his are almost lighting speed and the hollow runs right into the blade cutting its head in two, the hollow disappears in to the wind for the final time. With out a second look at Rukia, he walks over to the boy and performs a perfect Konsoh, sending the boy to Soul Society.
The scene cuts off to Orihime?s house. A Male soul is watching over Orihime. As she closes her blinds, two hollows attack the male soul. The hollows bring him to another world of fog and darkness. A third, a bigger hollow tells the other hollows to devour his soul and almost instantly the hollows do as there command to. The man is now converted to a hollow and a mask grows on his face becoming a complete hollow.
The second part of the episode begins with Rukia reading a book on modern Japanese. Ichigo interrupts her yelling at the top of his lungs telling her to shut up. She then tells him that she is trying to learn modern Japanese. Ichigo not buying this asks her when is she going to stop following him and she replies that she will continue to bother him until he accepts the duties of a Death God. Before he can say anything else they hear a car screech by. When they go to investigate they find Orihime?s body on the ground in the middle of the street. Ichigo rushes to her side to help her but she springs up and tells him that the car only scrahed her. Orihime greets Rukia and she replies in a rude manor. Ichigo then explain that there in the same class. She then totally changes from being rude to a happy schoolgirl and greets her. Oriheme turns around and starts to pick up her groceries. She picks up butter, leek, bananas, and bean bam jelly. While ichigo and Orihime discuss her plans for dinner Rukia examines a bruise pattern on her leg. The bruise looks as if someone grabbed her tight enough to break a couple of blood vessels. Orihime spots this and assumes that it was caused by the hit and run. Ichigo offers to walk her home but she says no, that she is all right and hurries home.
On their way home Rukia asks Ichigo about his relationship with Orihime. He tells her of a tragedy that happened 3 years ago. Orihime?s brother had gotten hit by a car and was sent to Ichigo house for treatment but instead of surviving he died. He was Orihime?s only family and when he passed away, she stayed all-alone. After this story she says that she is going home and Ichigo asks her where that is. Rukia then asks him if he is interested to find out where she lives but he just stick his hands in his pockets and says ?Not really?? Rukia says, ?Then don?t ask?, and then she runs home.
Night has come to the city if Karakura. Ichigo sits on his bed reading a book when his sister, Yuzu comes in and asks him for her pajamas and dress. Ichigo looks at her and replies that he does not know. When Yuzu leaves he goes back to reading his book until he hears a cell phone ring. Ichigo asks himself what that sound could be when Rukia comes out of the closet in Yuzu?s pajamas. Rukia has made a bed in the closet without Ichigo knowing. Before Ichigo can ask her what she is doing there she puts on her glove again and she pushes his body and soul of the bed while a hollow come through a dark portal in his wall. An Ichigo jump into action but is only able to cut the hollows are and land a weak hit on its mask. It seems as if the hollow had the upper hand until its masked cracked and fell off. The hollow yells in agony and disappears into a dark portal. Rukia runs after the hollow when she realizes that Ichigo is not running into battle as he usually does. He reveals that behind the mask was a face of a human and that face belongs to Orihime?s older brother (the ghost that was at Orimime?s window). Rukia tells Ichigo to attack the hollow from behind with a blow to the head so a Death God does not find out the identity of it. Ichigo is still standing there with a blank look on his face. He only hears that Rukia told him that all hollow where once human souls but turned into a hollow due to extreme sadness or a grudge but that they are now monster and must be killed quickly.
The scene then suddenly cuts to Orihime?s house. Orihime and her best friend, Tasuki they sit there talking about Ichigo and Rukia. Tasuki says that he didn?t know that Ichigo was so fast with the girls. Orihime tries to explain that he offered to walk her home but was interrupted by a daydream in which she shouts, ?Win me! Right, right, uppercut! Look out; someone is aiming a gun at you!? While she was talking they both hear a load sound followed by a harsh whipping sound. As her teddy falls of the shelf with a ripped head the scene cuts to Orihime?s brother in his hollow form howling and clawing at his head.
